Prayers at the Foot of the Altar / Confiteor

Posted on October 5th, 2008 in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Missa Cantata Lawrence KS

“The Celebrant longs to ascend to the altar of God, there to perform his holy office and to draw near to the Lord God, even to union with Him in the Eucharist.  He confides himself to the mercy of God, source of light, salvation, and peace, Who imparts to us unalterable youth of soul and blissful immortality.”

“The Confiteor creates an interior silence from the beginning of the Mass, as Priest and faithful turn away from their temporal concerns to face the reality of Calvary, for which their sins are responsible. It is the first expression of that Humility which will accompany us throughout the Sacrifice of the Mass.”

Missa Cantata Lawrence KS

“Our Bowing down to confess is the first act of true courage of every man who recognizes his sins. By refusing sin, he declares his dignity as a creature able to recognize spiritual beauty and embrace God”

“The Confietor is not meant to paralyze us with sadness or even shame; we do not confess our sins to remain guilty. It is a plea for reconciliation and forgiveness; iit is as a child full of repentance who goes to embrace his Father. “I confess to God, for Whom I was made, and to Whom I desire to return.”

Crucifix Conversation

I would like to apologize for the delay in posting. This is the busy time of year for a lot of us, with homeschooling, and other activities gearing up for fall. I promise to try and post more. For now please enjoy this short story about my children.

Chruch Pictures 128

Recently I purchased a rather large crucifix (not pictured) and have not found a proper place in the home for it, as it is quite large.  Below follows a conversation between Son 1 (age 5) and Son 2 (age 4) as they were gazing upon it.

Son #2:  “oh look at Jesus hes bleeding”
Son #1: “yes thats where they put the nails”
Son #2: in a sad voice “why did Jesus have to die”
Son #1: “so we can live”

Feast of Pope St. Gregory the Great

Posted on September 3rd, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Today in the new Calendar is the Feast of Pope St. Gregory the Great - or as in the East he is called Gregory the Dialoguer.

He is the name sake for the St. Gregory the Great Society that I have started to bring the traditional Mass to Johnson County.  You can check out the web site here :  http://www.gregorythegreat.org - Please send your name along so I can add it to the growing list-

Here is a bit of Info about Pope St. Gregory that Can be found on the Society’s website:

In summing up his legacy, the Catholic Encyclopedia states it nicely:

It is beyond the scope of this notice to attempt any elaborate estimate of the work, influence, and character of Pope Gregory the Great, but some short focusing of the features given above is only just.

First of all, perhaps, it will be best to clear the ground by admitting frankly what Gregory was not. He was not a man of profound learning, not a philosopher, not a conversationalist, hardly even a theologian in the constructive sense of the term. He was a trained Roman lawyer and administrator, a monk, a missionary, a preacher, above all a physician of souls and a leader of men. His great claim to remembrance lies in the fact that he is the real father of the medieval papacy.

The Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph is very lucky to have Bishop Finn. please say a prayer for him.

source

Bishop Robert W. Finn from the Diocese of Kansas City–St. Joseph emphasized that “Catholic schools exist for a supernatural purpose:” to assist students in developing virtue on their path to ‘eternal salvation.’…

…He noted that Catholic schools don’t focus solely on “measurable outcomes, or even helping students learn essential facts and marketable skills that prepare them for employment.”  But rather, “Catholic schools exist for a supernatural purpose.” …

“I pray that in our schools - from early childhood to university - we will be forming saints. Through obedience to the Holy Spirit, and His light entrusted to the Apostles, may our students begin to be more like Jesus Christ to the glory of the heavenly Father.”

The Coveted Popener

Posted on July 24th, 2008 in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Toward the end of last year we purchased SIRUIS Satellite radio for our cars so that we could have good music and good Catholic radio wherever we drove.

We were soon introduced to “The Catholic Channel” and Lino -The Catholic Guy.  For those that are unfamiliar here is a link to a NYT Article about him from earlier this month.

If you read the article or you are familiar with his show one of the most sought after prizes is a Pope Bottle Opener   - Popener -

Well my dear readers, as a semi-regular caller into the show( Known as “Sophia Lauren Chris” I will explain  why perhaps another time) I have earned a Popener from the Catholic Guy Show during a segment called - “Him, Hymn, or Her”

The Package:

popener1

Side 1 - Pope John Paul II

popener3

Side II - Benedict XVI

Public Service Announcement

some quick paint work I did
I see way too many people wearing the rosary around the neck, while I love looking at a Crucifix - the cleavage of an 19 year old girl is not the locale my eyes should peer.
