Prayers at the Foot of the Altar / Confiteor

Posted on October 5th, 2008 in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Missa Cantata Lawrence KS

“The Celebrant longs to ascend to the altar of God, there to perform his holy office and to draw near to the Lord God, even to union with Him in the Eucharist.  He confides himself to the mercy of God, source of light, salvation, and peace, Who imparts to us unalterable youth of soul and blissful immortality.”

“The Confiteor creates an interior silence from the beginning of the Mass, as Priest and faithful turn away from their temporal concerns to face the reality of Calvary, for which their sins are responsible. It is the first expression of that Humility which will accompany us throughout the Sacrifice of the Mass.”

Missa Cantata Lawrence KS

“Our Bowing down to confess is the first act of true courage of every man who recognizes his sins. By refusing sin, he declares his dignity as a creature able to recognize spiritual beauty and embrace God”

“The Confietor is not meant to paralyze us with sadness or even shame; we do not confess our sins to remain guilty. It is a plea for reconciliation and forgiveness; iit is as a child full of repentance who goes to embrace his Father. “I confess to God, for Whom I was made, and to Whom I desire to return.”

Additional Information for the next EWTN Extraordinary mass

Posted on November 14th, 2007 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I have found some additional information regarding the Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite that will be televised on December 15th at 8:00 am EST from the FSSP website here is the LINK and here is the info:

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter to Celebrate a “Rorate” Mass in Hanceville, Alabama, Will be Televised by EWTN

DENTON, Nebraska – The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) will celebrate a Solemn High Tridentine Mass at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 8:00AM EST. The “Rorate” Mass will be televised live by the EWTN Global Catholic Network.

The “Rorate Mass,” so called because it begins with the words “Rorate caeli desuper, et nubes pluant iustum…” (Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the Just One…), is a votive Mass offered within the season of Advent in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Celebrated by candlelight, and traditionally held before dawn, this beautiful liturgy is esteemed particularly as part of the patrimony of the German-speaking peoples.

Very Rev. Fr. John Berg, FSSP, the Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity, will travel from the community’s headquarters in Switzerland and will serve both as the celebrant and preacher. Priests and seminarians from Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, the FSSP’s international seminary in North America, will also travel to Alabama to assist.

Pilgrim groups are invited to attend this public Mass, to be offered in the extraordinary form, and should visit the Shrine’s webpage (www.olamshrine.com) if information is needed regarding accommodation options.

My Trip to the University of Notre Dame

Posted on November 6th, 2007 in Uncategorized | 6 Comments »

I returned Sunday night from South Bend Indiana. I was fortunate to take a weekend trip to the beautiful college campus of Notre Dame du Lac , The not so fortunate part was I was witness to history, that is the witness to the Fighting Irish give up a 43 Game winning streak to the Navy Midshipmen. Overall though I was thoroughly impressed with the campus and the Catholicity of the college. I was even Blessed to attend the newly restored Extraordinary Mass in the dorm of Alumni.

(Future Kansas City Chief Ring of Fame inductee- Jim Lynch)

The Extraordinary Mass way Prayed by a Holy Cross Priest the Mass was a Missa dialogata and I was rather impressed with the turn out for a 8 a.m. Mass the day after a football game. Before mass there was a welcoming announcement from the Priest that this was his first mass in the extraordinary form in 40 years, He informed us that he was going to go slow, read the rubrics, and try his best, he stated he had practiced some but was just not the same as actually doing it, he apologized for any mistakes ahead of time. He gets an “A” for effort from me!
