Traditional Sick Call Box

Posted on May 7th, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Today I bought a traditional Sick call box, growing up my grandmother had one that had been passed down to her from her father, that looks EXACTLY like this one. Her’s was not as complete as the one I purchased today.

Below are some photos of this wonderful item, The only item I added to the kit so far has been the small Crucifix, that I had got earlier this week at the Goodwill for $0.50

I suggest every Catholic have a sick call kit for their home, it could be as simple as a few items stored in a shoe box for when the priest comes, Fisheaters has some great info on this:

For a regular sick call (i.e., one that doesn’t include Unction), call your priest and, when he comes, remember that he will be bringing the Blessed Sacrament, the very Body of Christ. Men should remove any headcoverings, while women should cover their heads, and the house should be prepared accordingly. Now prepare the sick room itself:

  • Set up a table near the bed in a place where the sick person can see it, and cover it with a white cloth.
  • Place on the table the crucifix with a lit blessed candle on each side, a dish of holy water, a piece of palm (if you have some) that the priest can use to spinkle the holy water, and a dish of regular water. Some families include a small bell that the priest or sick person rings after Confession is complete (if Confession is received) to summon the family back into the room.
  • Lay a linen cloth across the breast of the sick person.

Above is a photo of Bishop Finn Celebrating his first mass in the Extraordinary Form, Bishop Finn prayed the mass in gratitude of the Holy Father’s Motu Proprio “Summorum Pontificum”

Other Bishops and priests have sought out the resources to learn how to pray this Extraordinary Form of the mass, this is where the Lost Lambs Lending Library hopes to help.

Small Talk

Sorry for the Long delay, with all the overtime I have been putting in at work its been a rough week, but I would like to share with you some bits and pieces of a conversation that I had with a friend of mine regarding The Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum.

Father is a Roman Catholic Priest who had been ordained after Vatician II and was never instructed in the Extraordinary form. Father is an Diocesan Priest in the southern United States. I have been having discussions with him since I was in about 8th Grade and he has even come to visit me once here in KC.

Please keep him in your prayers

Heres the Snippits:

Christopher: Id be interested of your plans of addressing the Motu Proprio in your parish

Father: I’m going to explain what the document means: that it is the Holy Father’s way of explaining the role of the Traditional Latin Mass in the modern Church, and that no one need fear in the least that the modern form of the Mass will disappear. I will explain to them that if they don’t want to be part of this, all they need to do is stay away from it….that there are actually TWO forms of the Roman Rite, and that the Traditional Latin Mass is one of those forms….equal in dignity with the modern form I will have to work diligently to avoid using the term “rites,” as in “former rite” and “modern rite.” The proper terminology according to the Holy Father is that there are two FORMS of the one RITE.

Christopher : it Does have that little “extra”.. ;-)

Father: Yes it does.

Father: This is the chance for [some] to show their true colors once again. This [M.P.] will do nothing whatsoever to them, but they will still be totally ballistic over the fact that the traditional Catholics are finally being pastorally cared for by their own Church!

Christopher: is that why you are asking those that dont want anything to do with it to stay away?

Father: It will demonstrate…. that they are just bitter….if they object to this, because the point will be that no one has any reasons whatsoever to object. Those who have a kneejerk reaction to anything “pre-Vatican 2″ can solve their problem by just staying away from it….They need to…… let the traditional Catholics finally be pastorally cared for.

Father seems to have a good point of view here, he is already preparing for this fight we are going to have to save our traditions, in a religion where Tradition is what sets us apart from the rest of the world those that want to see us falter will attack our Traditions first. If we are so easy to dispense with Tradition almost anything could be done away with just as simply.

Summorum Pontificum, is a great start for the reform of the reform, we must pray for all our Priests to guide us through the turbulent waters.

Msgr. Schmitz reminded us during his magnificent homily of the first mass of Fr. Talarico that the Devil is constantly attacking our priests and for all the trials and tribulations we face in our every day life, nothing will compare to the attacks on the priesthood.

This Is my Story

Hello WELCOME,

I am the lost lamb, This first post will tell you my history and how I came to be speaking to you.
So if you have some time feel free to listen to my story….

I am 22, grew up in a Mexican Catholic home.. My mom and dad were separated for Many years(11-13 or something of the sorts), I lived with my Mexican grandparents growing up and my Mother, Of course all my aunts and uncles had a say in raising me too, such is life in a Mexican family.

One of the 2 Churches in my Small Kansas Town

Grades K-7 were spent attending Catholic School in my small Kansas town, Mass every Day, Instructions by nuns, Max Class size was 24. It was during these formative years attending Mass, Receiving my First Holy Communion, Confession… that I felt a “Call” to the Church… as a young altar boy, this call was interpreted to be to the priesthood… so ever since i can remember I didn’t play with GI-Joe’s I played “Mass” and had my family attend and I would do everything the priest did.. I had “Corporals”, “Chalices” “Eucharist” etc… and it went on for quite sometime… Be as it may.. My father and my mother reconciled when I started 8th Grade… we moved to the big city and of course satan wanted to devour this fresh lamb out from the pasture.. and he did.. slowly but surely, My mass attendance went down… my prayer time went down… my interest in things worldly went up… but many may say that this is the nature of an adolescent but I disagree. I would say satan’s biggest battle was won when i chose to attend Catholic High School…I was the Most corrupt there… and the priests, faculty and other staff effectively at the time snuffed out any last lingering interest in the priest hood.

“Catholic” High School

So lets fast forward a bit from freshman year at “Catholic” high school as it breaks my heart to think about how they broke my soul- Today I am a 22 year old full time father and husband of two, I have been civilly married now for 4 years and love my two boys, even though we are both Catholic my wife and I did not get married in the church and have not been living as good Catholics.

The Most Gracious Holy Spirit

This all changed about 2 weeks ago, with my Grandmother whom raised me ill in the hospital, and our prayers for her increasing, and us just being us… My wife mentioned after an angry tirade at me that the only time she felt good anymore was on the few occasions we went to mass, I said lets go more often, and as if by the holy spirit filled me right then with all the vigor and passion for my Church once again, and again I heard God Calling me to Serve him..

But now this confused me, as I felt the calling as before but now I know its not to the priest hood, I am a married man so what am I being Called to? At this time I thought it might be the Deaconate and I inquired as to what it would take to accomplish that, suffice to say that based on my age alone I am not old enough to enter the Permanent Deaconate. (Its been awhile since I haven’t been able to do something biased on age).

Well about a week ago my ill grandmother passed away and at her Requiem mass a few things happened..
This Novus Ordo mass was just not worthy of my grandmothers soul. I have not been to a Novus ordo mass since, not because I dont agree with it, am I am not a SSPX member but a Roman Catholic so the Novus order must be a valid rite, but the personal interpretation by parish priests must be stopped. Her mass was just rushed, sloppy, and irreverent of her soul let alone Christ in the Eucharist. Be that as it may, her death and her mass has just pushed me to the next level.

I am Back and I am here to support my Faith with a vengeance and Im bringing my entire family with me, The wife and I have started the motion to get our marriage convalidated in the church so that we may fully participate in the sacraments and get back to living in a state of grace. We are increasing our use in sacramentals and have stopped committing other heresy’s that we have been doing.

Please pray for us in this journey back home!
